Please re-read the title of this post, and sing it to yourself to the tune of “Livin’ On a Prayer,” thank you.
Now we can move on. I thought it might be nice to let you all know what we’re up to since moving back to the states, since some of you have asked. We’ve gotten almost half of our move complete, which means that we are here, we are safe, there is a roof over our heads, we have at least one of our vehicles, and the movers have gotten some of our belongings across the ocean. What this also means though, is that the roof over our heads is quite temporary, our other vehicle is hopefully not sinking on a cargo ship somewhere, and the rest of our things have not made it stateside. Although we have moved, we really are only “halfway there.”
For about a week prior to leaving Germany, we needed to clear our duplex, so we moved into a hotel in the meantime. After our flight to Chicago, we picked up Derrick’s truck and some belongings in Kansas, where we also stayed in a hotel. Now, since arriving at our final destination and beginning the house hunting process, where are we staying? That’s right, a hotel. So, we are, as the title says, living in a square. Thankfully, we at least have a kitchenette in our little rectangle, because eating out got old (and I felt like I gained 100lbs) within a week.
This hotel talk leads us to the topic of house hunting. FAIL! We thought we would find a place within a few days, but boy, were we wrong. We had been house hunting for weeks before we put any offers in. The first house had water damage, the second house went with another offer, and now we are waiting on an inspection for a third house. After realizing that most of the move-in-ready homes were a complete rip off, we have decided that we’re going to attempt a renovation. As if the twins don’t keep us busy enough, we’re hoping that we aren’t biting off more than we can chew. We are not looking to flip this house into our dream home, since we’ll only be here for a few years. Instead, we are looking to update it to look a bit better than its cohorts in the neighborhood so that we can re-sell it as quickly as possible when the time comes.
While we play the waiting game, we’ve been thankful that the boys are still small enough to share a Pack’N’Play, and that Oly never seems to care what’s going on. Take a look at how they’ve been doing…
The upside to living in hotels, has been that the boys have gotten to hang out in pools. Both love to kick and float around, but if the water is warm, Hudson will just fall asleep. He’s quite the swimmer…
Anyway, so that’s our current state. To a couple of other questions we’ve been asked, I’ll throw some extra information out there. Derrick has indeed started work, I am stuck in the “square” all day, we don’t know if the house will pass, if or when it does, we will need to replace a few things before moving in, we don’t know if we like it here, we haven’t had time to miss Germany, we don’t know when we’ll be able to visit anyone, and we do have a mailing address, but you will have to contact me privately for it.
In the future, I’ll still posts updates about what’s going on, so if you have questions, feel free to send them our way. I’ll also be posting things that are more or less thoughts of mine, maybe some things about twin mom life, adjusting to life outside the 3rd largest city in the U.S., or just things I think are funny. Continue to visit the blog if you’d like!
