The Gift Guide for the Practical Girl

If you’re anything like me, then it’s mid-December and you’re still wondering what to get friends and family for Christmas. While I’m still stumped on some gifts, I’ll spend some time trying to help you guys out! I know that not all of us here are “girly girl” types. You could be low-maintenance, or maybe you’re a new mom without as much time for self-care. I happen to be all of the above, and I bet you happen to know someone like me! These are gifts for the girls who would rather have something practical than pretty, or just don’t like to let useless things pile up. If you can’t get any clues on what your family or friends WANT, then why not look at something they might need!

I’m going to share with you some of my favorite items, that I’m sure other not-so-girly-girls will enjoy. These are things that are used on a daily basis or fit a no-fuss personality. Each item has been used by yours truly, so don’t worry, I’m not throwing any non-sense at you. I’ll cover multiple price points and interests here, so be sure to check out the whole list! 1. Sweatpants

Guys, I have three pairs of these Nike Therma-Fit All Time Pants in different colors. Why? Because they are SO soft inside! Whether you’re going for a run in cool weather, or just want to feel cozy, they feel great. Also, the legs are a loose fit, so if you’re a HUGE fashionista (sarcasm) like me and wear two pears of pants at the same time when it’s cold…they’ll work.

2.  Toolkit

I’m aware that this is pink. I’m also aware though, that it has some of the most commonly used items in it and is compact enough that it fits in my kitchen. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, not because I’m an awesome cook, but because I’m an awesome eater (what?). So, I appreciate not having to go to the basement or garage and disrupt my husband’s mess carefully placed things, to get one simple tool!

3. LifeProof NUUD Phone Case

Are you buying for someone who drops things a lot likes activities? Does this person have a phone? Perfect. Let me tell you a story. I left my phone on top of our car, which had been parked atop a cliff in Cinque Terre, Italy. We then drove down a winding road and saw something fly off the roof of the car and slide across the pavement. This “something” was my phone. Once I retrieved my phone, it was in 100% working order. If you don’t understand how significant this is, then please look here to see the winding road that my phone survived. On top of this, I’ve been able to take underwater photos with this case on! For any fault that anyone has ever found with any model of the LifeProof cases, it is worth saving your phone, I promise.

     4. A gym membership!

Okay, I don’t have any links for this, because this will depend on location and what your recipient likes to do. A lot of women get offended at a gym membership, and assume you’re telling them that they need to workout. Personally, if I didn’t have workout equipment at home, I’d LOVE a gym membership! I enjoy working out, and it would save me some cash! Many of you know that I have a background in fitness, particularly CrossFit and Olympic weightlifting. However, there are so many options! Think about places with yoga, barre, spin, and so on. You might even be able to find a Groupon deal for a local gym!

5. A Warm Jacket (that will last!)

I’ve had this jacket for 3 years and am still using it. It has a lining that zips out, so you can use just the shell or just the fleece liner if you’d like. My husband has a men’s version and he’s still loving his as well. You’ve got different color options here, so you can be a bit more daring than black!

6. Yeti Tumbler

If you know a big coffee drinker, she will NOT worry about her coffee going cold in this, or her water going warm, for that matter. I’m an all-day kind of coffee and/or water drinker. Not that I drink both all day, but I always have drinks around and don’t want to reheat or re-cool anything! These tumblers also come in different sizes, so if you click the link, feel free to shop around a little for other models.

     7. Amazon Gift Card

Who doesn’t love a gift card to a place where you can get almost anything you need? There is nothing more practical than this, especially if you’re gifting to someone who sometimes has trouble leaving the house because…you know, kids.

Now, I bet you know someone who could use at least one of those items! The list wasn’t fancy, extensive, or extreme, because once again, these items are supposed to be PRACTICAL. Other ideas like automatic car starters, laptops, etc. are great, but weren’t highlighted on the list because those aren’t necessarily in everyone’s budgets. If you have any other ideas, feel free to share in the comments, maybe we can all help each other out!

  1. The pants. Yes. When the weather is cold, I SO prefer donning a pair of super comfy pants as opposed to jeans! Running around after kids is better done in sweats.

And I’ll take an Amazon gift card anytime!

    • Right?! Cozy pants are the best!!! And I don’t know a soul who doesn’t appreciate an Amazon gift card!

  2. Great list! I have had my Northface coat for over 10 years and It’s still keeping me warm. A trip to the spa or the nail salon for a mani/pedi are also great gift options. 😉

  3. I need to invest in a good jacket… I haven’t found one that I absolutely like yet, and have to check out the one you shared! I also know a lot of friends who would love these items as gifts… Thanks for sharing!
